Bento Express is a taiwanese restaurant in Sunnyvale, California. It is listed at 1677 Hollenbeck Ave, Sunnyvale, CA 94087, which places it among the local businesses of Sunnyvale that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.
In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Sunnyvale; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.
Hours are published for 6 days a week. On most of those days it is open 11 amβ2 pm. Note that it does not open on Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (408) 720-0072. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.6 out of 5 from 527 reviews, which is a strong result for a taiwanese restaurant in Sunnyvale and suggests consistent service.
Sunnyvale is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Sunnyvale follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

We felt like having bento today so we decided to come to Bento Express and grab some of their delicious bento for lunch. It wasn't as busy as I remembered it but nonetheless, I was very much looking forward to grabbing my bento. Lining up, the young lady asked me if I was with the party in front of me. "No", I said. She continued to ask me twice to which I continued to say "no". Afraid that she's confused, I said, "I'm by myself and I will be ordering a bento alone". She then skipped me and asked the person behind me and started taking his order? I was appalled and I gave her a weird look of discontent. She didn't stop and basically just skipped me. It literally took me a minute to realize what has just happened and you can imagine the feeling you felt if it ever happened to you. I could have: A. Make a scene about it and give them a piece of my mind B. Take the high road I took the high road. The bento wasn't as delicious as it was last I remembered it and with plenty of bento spots close by, it's a hard sell especially with how disrespectful this interaction was made me realize why the line was a lot shorter this time around. On a different day I may give them a pi

I had such a great experience here. I called because I knew I was going to arrive about five minutes after closing, and before I even asked if it was still possible to order, the staff member offered to prepare a bento box for me anyway. That alone meant a lot after a very long day at work. Since it was my first time visiting, I wasnβt sure which sides to choose, so she helped pick them for me and did an excellent job. Everything was fresh, balanced, and delicious. When I arrived, everyone was incredibly kind and made sure I had all my utensils and condiments before I left. The food quality was great, but what really stood out was how thoughtful and accommodating the team was. Itβs rare to see that level of customer care, especially right at closing time. Iβll definitely be coming back. π±β¨

Well made food, authentic Taiwanese / Chinese βoffice worker lunchβ experience. The portion is generous for one bento. The flavors are good, slightly on the sweet side for Chinese food, typical of Taiwan. The side dish (choose four!) selection is amazing, with enough basics in vegetarian selections while most of the sides have (meat) proteins. There are only 4 chairs, all outdoors, as most customers are to go. I really wanted to give it 5 stars for the nostalgia factor, but a solid 4 stars for food and excellent value earns this restaurant a place on my recurring rotation.

8/18/25 Bento Express 1677 Hollenbeck Ave Sunnyvale, CA 94087 I went there for an early dinner. It's in the CVS plaza at Homestead and Hollenbeck, so plenty of parking. It's a takeout only order and plate setup, no interior dining. There are many main entree selections and it comes with four sides, including both protein and vegetable choices. I got the fried pork chop, three vegetable sides and a sausage. Everything was lightly seasoned, not excessively salted. The chop was huge with a crispy breading and tender. Service was fast and with mass quantities, good for 2 meals. A good value and repeatable.
